3M Cogent offers the CS 500e, a compact FBI-certified livescan system, to capture and process plain images consistent with NIST and FBI standards. The 3M Cogent CS 500e features true real-time fingerprint capture and image display with no moving parts. The device captures four finger slap fingerprints of both hands and two thumbs in three quick and easy steps. The associated software application enables users to create the tenprint record, check quality, capture demographic data on the workstation, and electronically transmit the record. The CS 500e application software uses the 3M Cogent algorithm tested as one of the most accurate available by NIST in the SlapSeg04 Evaluation Testing. The 3M Cogent algorithm was also one of the fastest algorithms providing slap fingerprint segmentation.

Best-in-Class Algorithm for Template Generation
3M Cogent was one of the first vendors to demonstrate its capability to generate the ANSI/INCITS 378 Data Interchange Format for Finger Minutiae. The 3M Cogent 378 template validated by NIST in its Minex 04 testing establishes the 3M Cogent algorithm as a best-in-class performer.
One-to-Many Matching Subsystem - CAFIS
3M Cogent provides 1:1 verification and 1:N identification services through configured CAFIS (3M Cogent’s COTS software) to ensure unique card issuance to applicants and to protect the integrity of the application process. 3M Cogent’s off-the-shelf matching engines use a Multiple Tier Matching Approach to reach the highest levels of accuracy as demonstrated in the NIST FpVTE 2003. This approach provides flexibility to the matching engine to optimize the use of fingerprint feature information during the matching process. 3M Cogent Matching Engines can be provided in a wide range of performance levels to support response time and throughput requirements. High speed versions of the Matching Engine are used for the Department of Homeland Security’s US-VISIT program and other major government agencies around the world. 3M Cogent’s Matching Subsystem performs biometric comparison without the use of pattern classification, demographic filters, or other pre-filters that may lead to reduced accuracy.
GSA Approved Single Fingerprint Capture – CSD 200 and 330
The single finger scanners can be used as part of the credential verification station or logical access system. The CSD 200 and 330 fingerprint scanners are GSA PIV approved. It is housed in a ruggedized, compact, full aluminum casing. They capture single digit flat impressions at 256 grayscale levels and 500 ppi resolution. The image output size exceeds FIPS 201 requirements. Its features include:
- Live image display providing real-time feedback while capturing fingerprints,
- A standard USB 2.0 PC interface, no moving parts, and solid reliability in daily use.
Its associated software allows image enhancement calibration for dry and wet fingers providing for high-quality fingerprint capture.
